Dear colleagues, In this brief overview, I want to convey my regards and welcome the new Board of Directors for 2023-2025 along with Vice-President-elect Dr. Alfredo Bravo, who will occupy my current position by the end of 2025.
I also want to express my gratitude to Dr. Alfredo Rodríguez for his commitment and dedication during his tenure as Editor of the CACI Journal. He will be succeeded by Dr. Carlos Fernández Pereira (who is part of the same group, thus providing continuity).
Since I took office on December 16, several events have unfolded. I will try to summarize them:
Unfortunately, we witnessed the passing of two founding fathers of interventional cardiology worldwide: Dr. David Antonucci and Dr. Alain Cribier.
In late October, when the supply crisis intensified (with a shortage of contrast solutions, stents, devices), we were summoned by the Secretary of Commerce, alongside representatives from various cardiology societies (SAC, FAC, CCV, FCA, CAC), in an attempt to address these issues. Little progress was made in that meeting, and little did the authorities leaving office do to solve the problem.
However, that meeting paved the way for the aforementioned societies to come together and establish “ Cardiología Unida” (Cardiology United), a working group under a Framework Agreement recently signed by all parties. This enabled us to secure a meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr. Mario Antonio Russo, where we could present our issues and discuss potential solutions on equal footing.
Regarding our guild activities, much has been accomplished in recent months, encouraging the creation of associations nationwide to pursue the long-awaited direct payment of our fees through provincial associations.
While many events have transpired, it is our intention to remain deeply engaged in further initiatives.
Colleagues, it is imperative that we all make the deepest commitment; opportunities do not simply present themselves: we must create them.
I wish to convey that holding this position is an honor for me, and I pledge to face all challenges head on to achieve the best outcomes for our association.
